GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Department Chair is responsible for administering the academic Department of Business and Economics within the Division of Social Sciences and Education, which may include but not limited to, faculty recruitment and development; faculty evaluation; program development; program review; curriculum development; student advisement; departmental budgeting and budget control; class schedule planning; general supervision of the teaching, research, and service related scholarly activities of the department. The position of department chairperson is integral to the College's central mission: the education of it students.

The successful candidate will be a distinguished energetic educator with a record of distinction in scholarship and leadership.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·Demonstrates vision for the department, asking questions and developing plans for where it might be in the future.
·Works in collaboration with others in the department to facilitate curriculum review, development, assessment, and use of resources.
·Reviews and evaluates courses taught in the area with an eye to keeping the curriculum current with pedagogical and scholarly advances in the discipline.
·Work with the Division Chair to evaluate faculty, and make recommendations for promotion, tenure, salary, working conditions and workloads, and for hiring new department members.
·Advises faculty members on professional development plans as a result of the evaluation process.
·Actively supports formative faculty development, as well as, meets responsibilities for summative reviews.
·Ensures that the process of mentoring faculty occurs.
·Encourages scholarship in both pedagogy and discipline.
·Directs and coordinates publicity for the department and assist in the recruiting of students and the placement of graduates.
·Ensures that students in the department are advised.
·Responsible for departmental budget formation and supervision, scheduling, and management of departmental facilities and equipment.
·Serves as a liaison between the department and the Division Chair, advocating departmental interests without losing sight of College goals.
·Works with the Division Chair to prepare regular reports and special reports that may be requested by the President, Provost of other College officials.
·Responsible for working with accreditation, certification, and other external agencies as appropriate.
·Assigns teaching duties of faculty in consultation with faculty members and the Division Chair.
·Prepares, in consultation with each faculty member and the Division Chair, schedules of classes for each semester ensuring an equitable spread throughout the day and week.
·Ensures that all student files are updated regularly and are complete.
·Calls and chairs regular meetings of the department faculty and establishes departmental policies as necessary for the conduct of the department's business.
·Leads the faculty in providing instructional, research, and service programs of excellence.
·Fosters productive professional relationships among departmental faculty.
·Teaching Responsibilities: Nine credit course load
·Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline of a major field of study offered by the Department.
·At least three years full-time teaching experience at the college/university level or equivalent.
·Demonstrated research, scholarship, and strong record of teaching.
·At least 5 years of successful administrative experience at the level of department chair, director, or coordinator in a college/university or in a public or private educational setting.
·Demonstrate successful experience that includes management of fiscal and personnel resources, academic program evaluation and review, and strategic planning for student advisement, recruitment, and retention.
